Survey of Malaysian's view towards goverment implicant and governance

Why Nobody Cares About Your Business

1. In the digital world, the cost of building your website has gone down to next to nothing.
2. If you have an idea, that you believe will make a difference in people's lives, that you can connect with them anywhere in the world and they will pay you to solve their problems. That is the good news. The bad news is there's never been a harder time in history to get people to care. Nobody cares about your business. e.g. You have traffic, but no one's buying. It's so demoralizing.

All these things are important. We need website, Facebook page, landing page, emails, youtube ads, youtube page, twitter account, Instagram and it all needs to work together. But really none of that stuff matters, unless you get one thing right - "Story".

A definition of sales is taking someone from a place that they are right now, whether it's a place of extreme pain, or trying to avoid pain, or maybe they're in a good place but they wanna get to a much better place and sales is a process of convincing someone to invest in a better future.

People buy on emotion and justify with logic.

If you feel like them, you can interact with them because you understand why he is doing what and so you can help him in much better way.

Emphathy, once you are inside their head, you need to really understand what is the story that they're telling themselves in their life. Everyone is walking around based on their pain points and their emotions and what's happening to them and telling themselves a story.

Anthony Robin says everyone's got a story they're telling themselves. If you can figure out to change your story, you change your life.

Learning exactly how to talk their language and how to tell them what they want, to get out of our product or our business or service or whatever, then you identify with those words. You put them in real words that they resonate with them, and, therefore you connect with them.

People don't really care about their story because they are inside their own head. Think about the movie Star Wars. Everyone's walking around and they wanna be Luke Skywalker in their own story. They don't want you to be Luke Skywalker. They don't want you to impress them and dazzle them. and your job is to be Yoda. As a brand, as a product, you are playing a very small part in their lives, the story that they are telling themselves but it's important because Yoda, everyone likes Yoda, it's important. And you just have to be there providing those little nudges so that they can do and accomplish, even if you are helping a lot, they can accomplish what they are on a journey to do. That's the goal of your products or service.

Free offer to interrupt people in the story they are living and show them there is a different path -> start to gain confident ->  once you get them to follow you a little bit on the new story you are helping them tell themselves, they are starting to get some confidence, then you can actually gain some knowledge from them, they know, like and trust you-> they are gonna invest -> that's gonna help them live that brighter future.

People are walking around not waiting for your product or service. If they even know about you, they are not waiting for you to come and get into their lives. They are busy.

The last part of success in online digital marketing is digital storytelling. You really have to take people where they are because you know who your ideal client is. You have to meet them there and to get them to follow you on your journey. The copy of speaking, the video is talking right to them and their pain points and their emotions as to offering them a better future.

Once they sign up for your free marketing series, then they're getting in there, they are getting an emails, that's continuing to lead them down this journey and it's all link together.

Any channel that they might be in, they need to see the next part of the story. Most people will not go through your story all in one shot, they are gonna have to go through it's multiple times and they're gonna stop and they are gonna start. And that's is the magic of the digital story.

Think about how to start a conversation with our possible customer
How to get in touch first time
How to keep the conversation alive - by email, by facebook by videos
by some free content we can deliver value
I started becoming more creative and understanding better. What it was that I wanted to actually sell because I understood what they wanted to buy.

Understand 3 things - Empathy, really understanding your ideal client, story.

What is the story that your customer is telling themselves in the head and how do you rewrite that story And then finally, once you have written that story, how do I map that story methodically onto a digital story telling map through the journey they need to take to know that I can trust you to invest in your services.

Construct around story matters
- How to really emphatize with your clients & what that really means

- How does the hero's journey works. How do you really retell someone's story.
Show them they can tell a new story

- Finally, What's the journey that people need to go through online.
How do you map them out so that they can really get that future what they want.

# Ecommerce - Statistic in Malaysia

1. According to Khairul Azwan Harun, in Malaysia, even with high penetration surpassing 70% of the Malaysian population, it is estimated that only 5% of Malaysian SMEs are venturing into e-commerce.

Asean alone has a population of over 600 million, a market that is 20 times bigger than Malaysia. Malaysian SMEs must take advantage of the Digital Free Trade Zone to access this huge market.

To acheive the goal of being a high income nation, we must break the business and traditional trading barriers and e-commerce is the key.

http://malaysiable.news/docYjMrOVZSR045UEk9/3195

Multilife -

https://itop.world.tmall.com/

Balance

Decision Making

The Wedding Costs in Malaysia

Till debt do us part

According to a wedding planner, the average Malay wedding costs between RM50,000 and RM80,000 if it is held at a convention centre or a tent, but the cost shoots up to RM300,000, or even a million ringgit if it is held at a five-star hotel.KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 ― Dr Farah’s wedding celebration last year comprised three receptions costing a whopping RM95,000 that forced her to take a RM15,000 loan even after getting financial help from her family.
The 30-year-old doctor, who asked to speak using a pseudonym, said that her father had sponsored RM15,000 for the reception at his home state in Kelantan, while her husband’s family spent RM15,000 for their wedding dinner in Putrajaya.
“My mum’s a doctor, my dad’s a doctor and three of us siblings are doctors. If we do a very simple wedding, people will wonder why we are doing a very simple wedding when we’re doctors,” Dr Farah told The Malay Mail Online in a recent interview.
“That was my mum’s thinking. My mum’s function was very grand. There were dancers, ‘silat’ (Malay martial arts) performers, an MC who was hired,” she said, adding that the third reception, which was for her mother’s side of the family in Selayang, cost RM30,000. There were separate receptions for her parents as they are divorced.
Dr Farah said that she and her 29-year-old husband spent another RM35,000 on items like dowry, a jazz band at one of the receptions, silat performers, accommodation for her in-laws who are from Johor, invitation cards, decorations, clothes, wedding rings and make-up.
Some Malay couples buy luxury goods like shoes, bags or watches as 'wang hantaran' or dowry.Despite the exorbitant cost of the wedding, however, Dr Farah said that she and her husband managed to buy a condominium unit in Putrajaya.
Seasoned wedding planners say that the cost of an average wedding, across all races, has soared to above RM50,000, causing some couples to take out personal loans to pay for their nuptials if they are unable to get much financial support from their parents.
“To beat the ‘competition’, to ensure that their wedding is unique, special and better than a friend’s wedding before theirs,” Leticia Hsu, president and co-founder of the Association of Wedding Professionals (AWP), told The Malay Mail Online in a recent email interview, when asked why some couples spend more than they can afford.
“Back in 2008, wedding vendors were about 10 per cent lower in cost than they are now and even food costs were lower. Generally, a five-star hotel charged RM1,200++ per table. Now, that same hotel charges RM2,200++ per table,” added the director of honour of Elysium Weddings Sdn Bhd.
Prices quoted “++” denote that an additional service charge ranging from 10 to 15 per cent and government tax of 6 per cent that is yet to be tacked on.
Hsu, who has been in the business for almost 13 years, said that couples who get into debt to tie the knot usually borrow between RM30,000 and RM50,000.
A Chinese couple in their late 20s that did not want to be named, told The Malay Mail Online that they took out a staggering RM100,000 loan to finance their RM170,000 nuptials last June.
The wedding reception of the 27-year-old woman and 29-year-old man, an online business owner and marketing manager respectively, was held at a five-star hotel.
When asked why they got into such debt for their big day instead of having a smaller wedding, they simply said, “Parents issues”, without elaborating further.
Hsu said that the wedding reception (which comprises the venue, food, drinks and wedding cake) takes the biggest share of expenditure at 42 per cent, while other expenses include flowers and decoration, entertainment, the ceremony, invitation cards, bride and groom’s attire, accessories, hair and make-up, photography, videography, and other expenses.
“Generally, Chinese would spend more on the food, making sure the food is top quality. Malays and Indians spend more on decoration and invitations, making sure that they wow their guests at the reception and at the first impression,” said Hsu.
Angpows generally cannot cover the entire cost of a Chinese wedding, according to a wedding planner. — Pictures by Saw Siow FengA typical menu for an eight-course Chinese wedding dinner includes dishes like appetisers, abalone soup, roast duck, steamed red grouper, sautéed tiger prawns, baby kai lan vegetables, steamed glutinous rice, and chilled sweetened sea coconut. Wine, hard liquor or beer is also usually served.
At Malay and Indian weddings, food domes, food stations and buffets are common, said Hsu.
According to wedding planners, the dowry given by the groom’s family to the bride’s side among the Chinese ranges from a few hundred to tens of thousands of ringgit.
For the Malay community, the dowry, or “wang hantaran” gifted by the groom to the bride’s family is between RM10,000 and RM18,000 for low to medium-range weddings, and RM50,000 for high-end weddings. Indian Malaysians, on the other hand, generally do not practise the dowry custom.
Hsu observed that the wedding industry is booming in Malaysia, but said she did not have specific figures.
“These days, almost everyone is a wedding planner,” she said.
Wedding planners are increasingly popular because of time constraints resulting from both partners holding down full-time jobs, according to Hsu.
“If you ask me to give you an educated guess, five out of 10 couples would get a wedding planner,” she said, but added that she did not have statistics on the number of couples hiring wedding planners.
Hsu, who mostly organises Chinese weddings, said that her fees start at RM10,000, adding that other wedding planners usually charge a minimum of RM4,500.
Another wedding planner, Nasrul Nasaruddin, said that the average Malay wedding costs between RM50,000 and RM80,000 if it is held at a convention centre or a tent. But the cost shoots up to RM300,000, or even a million ringgit if it is held at a five-star hotel.
“For five-star hotels, the standard rate is RM200 per pax, depending on the package,” Nasrul told The Malay Mail Online at a recent interview.
The founder of Nas Great Idea added that guests usually give RM200 “angpows” (envelopes containing cash gifts) at Malay weddings held at five-star hotels, breaking away from the tradition of giving gifts. If the wedding reception is held at a tent, both gifts and angpows are generally given.
Nasrul says that inviting 1,000 guests to a Malay wedding reception is not unusual.Nasrul, who started his business 12 years ago, said that the Malay wedding reception is typically sponsored by the bride’s family. But if both partners live in different states, the groom’s family may also organise their own dinner. Inviting 1,000 guests to a Malay wedding reception is not unusual.
“For high-end weddings, they will have a ceremony at the bride’s, groom’s, for the media, VIPs. So, in total, three to five receptions. For politicians, they have receptions at their home state where they invite lots of people, up to 15,000,” he said.
Nasrul said that decoration is key for Malay weddings and described previous weddings he has organised, such as creating a glass floor with flowers underneath at the stage area where the “pelamin”, or the traditional wedding dais that represents the bridal couple as the king and queen sitting in state, is located.
“For high-end weddings, the decoration costs between RM100,000 and RM500,000,” he said.
“The trend now is for massive pelamin decoration that catches your eye. Five years ago, it was stiff pelamin decor ― flowers and pillars. Now, they transform the whole ballroom, like turning it into a garden of flowers, a Japanese garden with bonsai trees, Oriental with cherry blossoms, European with Roman pillars, or Minangkabau style, Javanese style, Acheh style, or Moroccan style with a dome and stained glass,” he added.
Nasrul, who mostly plans Malay weddings and some high-end Chinese or Indian ones, said recently that he is organising a “Chengdu style” wedding for a Chinese tycoon next year, with the ballroom lined with a structure resembling the Great Wall of China and transformed into a garden with pagodas.
The lavish wedding of celebrity couple Rozita Che Wan and Zain Saidin on December 11, dubbed the wedding of the year, was reported by Malay-language daily Harian Metro last month to have received a sponsorship of RM13 million.
The newspaper also reported that the actress would receive RM23,200 in “wang hantaran” and a wedding ring estimated to cost RM93,000.
“Wang hantaran” for the average Malay couple can be equally expensive, Dr Farah noted, saying that some of her friends had splurged on luxury watches and handbags that cost tens of thousands, despite not being able to afford them, as the “wang hantaran” is displayed prominently at the reception or ceremony.
“My friend bought a Maurice Lacroix watch, which cost RM20,000, even though he has only been working for two years,” said Dr Farah. “We live in a materialistic world.”
Excessive spending on weddings has also strained newlyweds’ relationships, with Dr Farah observing that some of her friends have even gotten divorced after splurging on their big day because of financial concerns over starting a family, or even buying a car.
Nasrul said that local weddings typically have a huge number of guests, unlike more intimate Western nuptials, because Malaysians fear offending others.
“Malaysians are very sensitive. If you hear that your friend is getting married, you will feel that there is something wrong if you’re not invited. That’s why they invite all,” he said.
He added that he charges clients between RM20,000 and RM30,000 on average to organise the decorations for their weddings, though his fees start at RM5,000.
According to Nasrul, honeymoons for Malaysian newlyweds, which are not included in the wedding expenditure, cost at least RM5,000 for local or South-east Asian spots, and above RM50,000 for trips to Europe, where the popular destinations are Paris and Rome.
Rajes offers loan services of above RM35,000 for couples who want to have their dream wedding.Rajes Sivagamy, founder of Femina Bridal and Wedding Gallery, said that Indian weddings on average cost RM70,000 if the reception is held at a hotel, noting that costs can skyrocket up to RM200,000.
“A wedding is a big event. We can have 800 to 1,000 pax, 1,500 pax, or even 2,000 to 2,500 pax,” Rajes said.
“The trend now is to have the reception at the hotel,” she added.
Rajes, who has 15 years’ experience in wedding planning, said that unlike in India, Malaysian Indian brides do not adorn themselves heavily with gold jewellery because of the rising crime rate in the city.
“Now, 90 per cent is costume jewellery. They’ll wear family gold like a chain or a gold bangle, usually just one or two pieces. In March, robbers ambushed a bride’s house in KL and stole 80 pounds of gold,” she recounted.
“For Indians, gold is very important. But because of the situation, there’s no choice but to do away with it,” said Rajes, adding that gold at Indian weddings symbolises wealth.
As tying the knot becomes increasingly expensive, Femina offers personal loans, in co-operation with AmBank, at a minimum of RM35,000 to help cash-strapped couples have their dream wedding.
“We just started this in June. So far, we have 12 customers,” said Rajes, referring to clients who took up the loans.
When asked why couples did not opt for smaller weddings instead, Rajes said that they want to have an event as lavish as their friends’, or something a little more impressive.
“When a friend has done a wedding, it’s already bench-marked,” she said, adding that Femina charges clients 40 per cent of the total wedding cost.
Decoration is key at Malay weddings, according to a wedding planner.A senior officer with a non-bank financial institution, who wished to remain anonymous, said that couples who get into debt to finance their wedding usually take out personal loans of between RM10,000 and RM50,000, noting that the practice cuts across race.
“If they want a bombastic wedding, they’ll borrow a lot,” he said.
A survey by The Malay Mail Online on wedding packages offered by hotels, convention centres and restaurants in the Klang Valley showed that prices range from RM600++ per table of 10 diners at the four-star Crystal Crown Hotel in Petaling Jaya, to almost RM3,000++ at the five-star Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Prices vary for Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western wedding packages. Mandarin Oriental also has a minimum requirement of either 25 or 30 tables, depending on the package.
The Oversea Restaurant’s Chinese wedding packages range from RM668 to RM1,398 per table.
A five-star hotel in PJ charges RM1,500 per table for a Chinese wedding package with a minimum of 25 tables. Wine costs RM180++ per bottle, champagne at RM250++ per bottle and beer at RM1,500++ per barrel, or 30 litres, while corkage for beer is RM500++ per barrel opened, wine or champagne at RM50++ per bottle opened, and hard liquor at RM80++ per bottle opened.
The Sime Darby Convention Centre in KL charges between RM989++ and RM1,388++ per table, depending on the type of cuisine, for a minimum of 50 tables.
Corina Chooi, 35, said that she spent between RM150,000 and RM200,000 to tie the knot in 2008, but added that she did not take out a loan for the wedding reception held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) that hosted 700 guests.
The homemaker, whose husband is a businessman, said that having a large wedding was unavoidable as her husband has a big family.
Chooi’s husband paid for a large portion of the wedding and received some financial help from his mother and Chooi’s family. Chooi and her husband live with her in-laws, as they require their sons and family to stay together with them.
She also said that it was unwise to start married life in debt, pointing out that buying a marital home and starting a family would incur even more expenses.
“You don’t need to have a big wedding to have a memorable wedding,” said Chooi.

E-commerce industry in Malaysia 2017

The top 5 keys to Malaysia's eCommerce industry in 2017

Key takeaways from a new survey of Malaysian shoppers from all 14 states.

According to a new survey of shoppers from all 14 Malaysian states, there are five key leading trends for the coming year.

Through its recent nationwide survey from 15 to 21 November, in which 3,507 respondents participated, online marketplace 11street said it has overall confidence in the country's online retail sector for 2017.

Hoseok Kim, chief executive officer of 11street, said: "Based on the findings of our survey, we can conclude that the online shopping sphere in Malaysia is thriving, fuelled by a strong potentials for it to mature further and grow."

"The survey revealed the psyche of Malaysian consumers who shop online, and provided us with the information to form our predictions for Malaysian eCommerce in 2017," he said.

More than 80 percent of the respondents said they shop online and 59 percent said they shop online at least once a month or more frequently, said Hoseok.

"However, despite the availability of a myriad of product categories, Malaysian consumers are still only 'somewhat experimental' in their purchasing behaviour and largely stick to lifestyle and fast-moving products such as electronics, fashion and beauty, and sports and hobbies," he said.

Smart devices lead, apt infrastructure

Smartphones continue to lead as the device of choice for Malaysians consumers to shop online, according to 80 percent of the respondents, said Kim.

This underpins 11street's belief that Malaysia is now equipped with an apt IT infrastructure to pave the way for the e-commerce ecosystem to grow in the country, he added.

In addition, 95 percent of the respondents rated a '5' and above when asked about their satisfaction level with online shopping, and said they "are more than happy with their online shopping experience."

Shoppers also said savings often realised through online shopping allowed them to offset the rising costs of living. Cost savings when shopping online remains a strong driver for eCommerce's continuing growth.

2017: Five keys for Malaysian eCommerce

1. Online Shopping is the way forward
11street predicts that existing online shoppers will continue to buy more frequently, and non-online shoppers will start to explore eCommerce in the next 12 months.
This is based on the results of the survey, in which out of the 17 percent of respondents said they had not shopped online before, while 85 percent showed interest in seeking out online shopping within the next year.

Their interest is likely encouraged by the satisfaction of existing online shoppers, as well as the good prices they can find online.

2. Payment Methods will continue to mushroom
While cash is king, 11street foresees that Malaysian consumers will be open to the idea of exploring non-cash payment methods such as online transfer, and through credit and debit cards, led by 90 percent  of the survey respondents who pay cash-on-delivery being willing to try other non-cash payment methods in the next 12 months.

3. Exploration into new product categories
In addition, survey respondents said they will consider home décor and furniture, household and groceries and health and supplements "as top priority categories in 2017."

As consumers become more familiar with online shopping, 11street expects consumers to shop online more for daily essentials, fresh produce and personal items.

4. Express delivery will gain traction
In general, 90 percent of the survey respondents said that they would be willing to wait up to one week for the delivery of their purchases. Yet while they was asked about express delivery, more than 60 percent of them said that they are willing to pay extra up to RM10 for express delivery. 11street sees this as setting the trend for express delivery moving forward, in which consumers expect faster delivery at more affordable price.

5. It goes beyond price
While consumers are used to cost-saving benefits from online shopping online, sellers must now go the "extra mile to deliver better services" by using analytics such as the processes of managing growing sales volume, rising expectations on logistics, and delivering impeccable customer service.

The survey comments included the prioritisation by respondents of 'timely delivery' and 'positive customer review,' among others, as their key considerations when it comes to online shopping.

As eCommerce continued to become more integral to the lives of Malaysian consumers, the barriers between eCommerce and traditional brick-and-mortar retail will be levelled, said Kim

Looking ahead, he said: "In 2017, we expect to see a substantial shift in the marketing plans of many businesses, whereby they will transcend from being device-focussed to more people-focussed. After all, consumers these days are not only on the look-out for the best deals, but also other factors that meet their needs and cater to their demands. On top of online deals, good customer service and excellent logistics will set the path for online businesses moving forward."

#1 - Portrait2u My Starting Plan

10AM - 10.40AM

I start to plan for my first e-commerce website today.

I found an e-commerce platform which I think it is suitable for me to do drop-shipping business.

Since I have no inventory and extra money, I think this plan works for me.

After checking the Shopify.com, it actually can be integrated with AliExpress.com. China market is huge and I think this is good news for us because we can find variety of products there and target on a certain group of people that I want. Besides, I think it can definitely attract customers to visit the website. I want to give it a try.

In order to do so, I need to plan and learn from the scratch first.

By reading on their tutorial, it has 14-days free trial for user to test their features before selling.

I also need to come out with my objectives first.

I called my e-commerce as portrait2u.com

1. My Target group is 20 - 45 years old. Some expert says it is too broad. However, one of the successful entrepreneur said that it is okay to have varieties product, but you need to have a niche products that attract them to come your page.

2. Niche market - Wedding Dress and Party Items.

3. What is my next plan?
- Get to understand how Obelo works.
- Test the features, refer to the local example https://meekco.asia/shopify/
- Products - Try not to take on too much at once Focus in what I am capable now. e.g. Photography, videography, customize gifts, photo album before moving into other product/services.

Mistakes that we always make
- It is not easy income, you need to put a lot of hard work, time and effort.
- to differentiate yourself from your competitor, you design your own product photo
- invest some money on it
- Learn how to use online marketing & strategy to target on local market first, before moving to Asian and worldwide.
- Brand your product
- join drop shipper community to learn how they work
- To have a good relationship with supplier, or test their products before hand.
-

Our objective is to provide a good service and quality product to our customer.

Product categories -

  • Dress - Wedding/Couple/Family/Event/Commercial,
  • Gifts/souvenir/props - Birthday/Party/Wedding/Event e.g. ball night
  • Games (board games)
  • Photo Album & Photos

Services -

  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Photobooth
  • Design Service such as business card, photo album, t-shirt etc..
Future Plan

Looking for business partner - Designer, Marketing, Photographer, MUA

Type of event/ceremony - Wedding, Party, Birthday, Dating, Farewell

Main Target customer - Couple & Photographer, Event Planner, Photo booth vendor

4. Marketing Strategy

i) Share photos in facebook page
ii) Writing blog describing what do we offer

5. Looking for model for photo-shooting
i) Look for someone who are doing small business online & co-operate with them e.g. people who are selling tshirt

Mr. Chin Yoon Khen - Localocal.com

- Taking a different path than what is intended for him after graduation, Yoon Khen founded CANUX in 2011 and embarks on his journey as a documentary photographer and website developer, diversifying his experience in multiple arenas and eventually leaving the cubicle nation as a fancy Project Program Management Advisor in Dell and Chief Operating Officer in Mystartr.

- Khen got his big break in February 2015, when Think City funded his first book publication, called the "Traditional Trades of Penang." When he's not busy leading Lokalocal, he can be seen at various events, engaging in TEDx Petaling Street 2014 speaker, being a columnist and sometimes, radio guest. Alumni Interview - Cik Nurul Izwazi Binti Mohd Nor

I would like to share this with you about my colleague's interview session which I "accidentally" found in UTAR youtube. I am quite surprised that she was the writer of two books and this definitely impressed me and lead me to further understanding of her personal traits. I believed she will be very successful and helpful in her unit by contributing more student services ideas and commitment to UTAR.
